****
Flautist Frank Theuns plays with captivating technical assurance, enhanced by his (and Henstra's) improvisatory flourished and persuasive ornamentation. The latter include a shaky tremolando which to my mind appropriately intensifies the expression in several passages, but which others might find distracting. He phrases the music with elegant fluency and sensitivity; his playing is deftly articulate wtihout ever sounding choppy; he produces a dark-hued, rich sonority from his Bressan-inspired instrument. In sum these are persuasively attractive renditions, underlining the music's stylistic variety and expressive breadth.
