Biography

Jaan Bossier studied clarinet with Walter Boeykens and piano with Robert Groslot at the Royal Conservatory in Antwerp. He has been a clarinettist with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra since 1997. He has worked in this capacity with conductors and soloists such as Claudio Abbado, Daniel Harding, Pierre Boulez, Sir Neville Marriner, Kurt Mazur, Anne-Sophie Mutter, Murray Perahia and Vadim Repin, and tours around the world. Since 2003, he has been the bass clarinettist of the Lucerne Festival Orchestra at the invitation of Abbado. In December of that year, he made his conducting debut with the Belgian contemporary music ensemble ChampdAction, in which he has already played clarinet for years. Since then he has conducted the ensemble at Wien Modern and Ars Musica Brussels, and in deSingel, the Bruges Concertgebouw and the Kaaitheater. Bossier has played in the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Die Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie, l'Orchestra Mozart (Bologna), St. Petersburg Camerata, the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, Brabants Orkest and most of Belgium’s professional orchestras. He is also the founder and clarinettist of the chamber-music ensemble Particella, and has won the Belfius Classics prize.
