Biography
Wibert Aerts was born in Ninove, Belgium in 1974. He studied the violin at the conservatories of Mons and Brussels and at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin.Teacher that have most influenced him include Andr Delcourte, Philippe Hirschhorn, Igor Oistrakh, Koji Toyoda and Serge Bémant.In 1992 he was a laureate of the Axion Classics competition (Dexia). From 1998 to 2000, he was assistant concertmaster of the Symfonieorkest van Vlaanderen and from 2000 to 2002 concertmaster of the ensemble Musiques Nouvelles. He currently teaches at the Conservatoire royal de Mons and the Conservatoire royal de Bruxelles.He is a member of Het Collectief, a chamber music ensemble specialized in the interpretation of 20th century and contemporary music. Several CDs of the latter ensemble have received laudatory reviews in international professional journals such as Gramophone, Répertoire, Scherzo, Le Monde de la Musique and Diapason. Wibert Aerts also regularly appears as guest violinist with the ensembles Oxalys, Ictus, Spectra, Prometheus, Champ d’Action, Hermes … to mention only those few. As a chamber musician he has performed in and outside Europe, playing at well-known festivals such as Ars Musica, Festival van Vlaanderen,Pact Festival, Klara Festival, Festival de Wallonie, Europische Kammermusikakademie, Cellofestival ( Novosibirsk)etc. Wibert Aerts has been involved in many world creations of pieces by contemporary composers, including J.-P. Deleuze, Hao-Fu Zhang, Mauricio Kagel, Kee-Yong Chong, S. Van Eyken, Walter Hus, Frederic Dhaene,…In 1998, he decided to team up with the Spanish pianist Caridad Galindo and since then they regularly perform as a duo.Alongside his activities as a chamber musician, Wibert Aerts also applies himself intensely to the repertoire for solo violin. In 2008 his cd Violin Faces comes out on the Label Fuga Libera and received laudatory reviews in international and national press such as Monde de La Musique ( 4 stars), Classiqueinfo, Crescendo, Klassik to mention those few. Since then he is regularly invited as soloist to play the world creations of violinconcertos of Bram van Camp, Jelle Tassijns , Jean-Pierre Deleuze and new pieces for solo violin. Wibert Aerts plays on a Carlo Guiseppe Testore of 1697.
