Biography

Ann De Renais was awarded a British Council grant for Post-Graduate Vocal Studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London having first studied piano and voice at the Royal Conservatoires of Brussels and Ghent in her native Belgium. Since 2002, Ann has been training with vocal technician David Jones in New York and London, where she lives. Her repertoire covers a wide variety of styles, ranging from opera to oratorio to song recitals, film and BBC-documentary scores, and contemporary music.

Ann made her operatic debut as Nannetta in Falstaff for Opus Gattières in France. Subsequent roles have included, Handel's Cleopatra for the English National Opera Bayliss Programme, The Fire and The Nightingale (L’Enfant et les Sortilèges) for New Tel Aviv Opera and Susanna (The Marriage of Figaro) for Beaufort Opera in London. The most recent role is Mozart's Queen of the Night at Glyndebourne Opera House.

Her concert engagements began internationally as 1st soprano of the 8-part vocal ensemble The Swingle Singers, with whom she gave many a cappella performances, as well as contemporary operas at La Scala, Milan and Le Théatre du Châtelet in Paris.

Next to performing and recording, Ann teaches the principles of the Swedish-Italian School of Singing as developed by David Jones and became one of his associate teachers in 2003.
