Biography

Belgian harpsichordist Mario Sarrechia (1988) completed his studies with several distinctions at the Koninklijk Muziekconservatorium of Antwerp (Ewald Demeyere) and the Conservatorium of Amsterdam (Bob van Asperen, Menno van Delft and Richard Egarr). During his education, he followed several masterclasses with distinguished musicians as ao. Gustav Leonhardt, Sigiswald Kuijken and Christophe Rousset.

After his studies, he became part of the world-renowned baroque orchestra La Petite Bande of Sigiswald Kuijken. Performing with them on a regular basis, as a continuo player and soloist, he has given several tours throughout Europe and Japan. Together, they have recorded multiple CDs with the label ACCENT.

 

 

Besides he is a frequently asked continuo-player and has performed with ensembles such as Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century, Cappella Amsterdam, Orkester Nord, La Sorpresa, La Sfera Armoniosa, RedHerring, Nederlands Kamerkoor and Eik en Linde. And has worked with esteemed musicians such as Enrico Onofri, Ann Hallenberg, Ryo Terakado, François Fernandez, Patrick Denecker and Mike Fentross.

 

 

As a soloist, he has given recitals both at home and abroad with a repertoire ranging from the 16th to the 19th Century on harpsichord and organ. In 2020 he recorded a solo cd in collaboration with Museum Vleeshuis with music related to the famous Antwerp family of harpsichord builders Ruckers. The cd was released in 2022 by Etc’etera.

 

 

He is also the artistic leader and founding member of Amsterdam Corelli Collective, a baroque string ensemble he founded in 2013 with several friends. The ensemble got selected for the prestigious Eeemerging-programme of the Festival d’Ambronay in 2015. They’ve had successful collaborations with celebrated musicians such as soprano Hana Blazíková and Shunske Sato.

 

 

As a researcher, he has focused on keyboard intabulations of French chansons and has given lectures and masterclasses on this subject at the University of Cambridge, the Vleeshuis Museum Antwerp and multiple conservatories.

 

 

Besides his activities as a professional musician, he also teaches theory of music at the Hogeschool Leiden (NL).
